The Sindia was
constructed in 1908 as a private residence. There were few buildings in Ocean
City at the time and this four story build was one of the closest to the beach.
By the mid 1900's Ocean City was a summer resort for many families throughout
the Pennsylvania and New Jersey area. The building was
purchased by the Kohick family in 1934 and was originally run as a "Bed and
Breakfast." When Mr. Kohinck returned from the war in the mid 1940's the Sindia
Restaurant opened as a sandwich shop. The business was family owned and operated
until 1989 when it was sold to Jimmy and Carol K.
Continuing in the fine tradition of full course dinners, Jimmy brought more than
50 years of restaurant experience to the establishment. They replaced awnings,
and added their own touches to the Pennsylvania Dutch decor, And many patrons
still visit for that classic touch of home-cooking,
The Hubbard family purchased the restaurant in 2006 and is keeping it a
traditional meeting spot for family vacationers to enjoy.
